How Liberals Changed the World

Politics in America today are nothing like they had been for the previous 200 years. This book answers the questions that nobody is asking. What led to this seismic shift? What is the basic prime mover maintaining this chasm of beliefs? What must be done to return to the days of compromise and cooperation? The book is not a collection of biased opinions. Everything presented is based on irrefutable statistics, data, dates and historical documents.

The main premise of this book is that the United States has become a highly divided political nation with one of the most critical goals of a party being to demonization the opposition party. The author, Marcelo Brazz, asserts that the U.S. government is becoming increasingly polarized and dysfunctional, and heavily advocates for better education of the electorate, partially through a more robust wide and encompassing media environment. In fact, the author is adamant that Reagan’s 1987 repeal of the TV and radio fairness doctrine ‘was the end of the traditional cooperative, compromising form of government we had enjoyed for the last 200 years’ and that America has never been the same since. As a millennial who has barely known a balanced media, hearing this policy tidbit was extremely interesting and also shocking. I had no idea the U.S. had had such a reaction after WWII and then for some reason abandoned a most important takeaway. While tipis from healthcare to illegal drugs to civil rights and consumer protections were discussed, I particularly appreciated the brief discussion on prostitution and nudes because it’s a topic that we may think is regulated straightforwardly but one which can actually be turned on its head. I was also impressed that the author discussed and included data about GINI coefficients! It was unexpected outside of an academic text and goes to show the level of research and thought that the author has put into explaining the relationship between Democrats and Republicans, and the condition of our policy-making decisions today. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book, and would suggest using it as a discussion starter.

Worth reading for insightful knowledge about how politics really work! November 6, 2019 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase Freedom is not free. If history has shown us anything it is that extremes, whether they be in government, religion or politics, will not last long because the main body of people asked to sustain them are overburdened with the task. This author attempts to show the same within the text of the two party politics of the United States. He offers valid data concerning wealth, job formation and acquisition, as well as economic stability in times of Republican rules as opposed to Democrat rule. He also offers insight as to the thought processes that drive both sides of the political divide and how they affect not only the parties themselves, but America as a whole. Time in the short novel is dedicated to outlining how the continued machinations of the political parties can have real, long-term effects on the country and how individuals must educate themselves rather than fall prey to the techniques employed by both sides that are used to make them follow where they are led without thought. Well written and documented, the author takes the time to lead the reader through the historical timelines of certain periods in history that have been at least initialed by changes due to party mandated changes so that we understand how these things actually came to be. And, the call to action that he makes at the end of the book is empowering, if a little alarmist, and should get the thinking person into digging deeper into how he or she will vote in the future and what that vote really means. This is a great book for gaining truth and understanding about how your vote affects the future of the country for generations to come.

Preaching to the choir or helping open eyes for those looking for balance? November 4, 2019 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase Who is this book geared towards? Well right at the outset, the author says this book is for social conservatives. And it is to this group of individuals he makes his arguments. Make no mistake, Brazzi has a clear progressive bent. He expounds on the economy (the economy does better under democrats even though the “major misunderstanding” is that Republicans are better at it), climate change, voter fraud, the media, the war on drugs, healthcare (The number 1 reason for bankruptcies in America is the profit-driven health-care system) and many other wide-ranging topics. He keeps topics current by taking on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, climate change, voter fraud, and the conservative media. Brazzi balances these points against the historical backdrop where it all took place by discussing unregulated capitalism and the effects that communism had on policies in this country. He also goes into great depth early on going as far back as Greece which set the stage for a modern progressive American society. With the audience the author finds, the question will be whether he is preaching to the choir or helping open eyes of those looking for balance in conservative circles.

You'll never look at our government the same way. November 8, 2019 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase I was actually very surprised at how much and how deeply The Liberal Record: Everything You Need to Know, covered the topic of our government and the issues surrounding it. It truly is a deep dive into our political system and issues governed by it. I immediately connected with this book when it began discussing the polarizing and extremist nature of our two party system. It discusses how with absolutes and totalitarian behavior comes nothing more than divisiveness and discord, instead of the democracy we so often have mislabeled it as. The polar opposite views and actions of the Republican and Democrat party create more problems, lack of the citizens best interest, and lack of communication, than it does in actually doing any good. I loved how this book dispelled myths about which parties are responsible for which types of conditions we experience by showing proof from past years. I also think the author did a great job of discussing social issues and how they are regulated. Topics such as education, bankruptcy, healthcare, drugs, media, and climate change are covered as well as other current political topics. I think this book is a wake up call to all Americans and I highly recommend it. It is a perfect example of a book that shows not only what has happened and its effect on what is happening now, but also speaks out about what is coming next, if nothing changes and if the opposition parties are not demonetized.

The liberal record November 1, 2019 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase This is a book that the author brings out the idea of two major parties in the political history of the US and the world in general more so the 1st and 2nd world war thus the US being divided politically. The division has seen the opposition party finding itself being demonized so much leading to suppression of the true accomplishments and values. The author has also brought about the issue of how the electorate is fully informed of the deeds of conservatives and liberals. The idea of this book tells of some things that if not corrected the government will get towards dysfunction and disunity. I highly recommend this book to other readers since the writer has presented his ideas in a way that is both interesting and informative of the politics of the US and the world in general.
